Teen Baker Hopes to Change Hobby to Business

Who says bakers aren’t cooks and cooks aren’t bakers? Not teen Christina Swiatowy of Buffalo, N.Y., whose care packages filled with baked goods rival the dinners she makes from scratch each Sunday. Christina, 17, is a senior at Williamsville North High School. She seems as comfortable making homemade pierogies and Asian stir fries as she is with French macaroons and apple pie. The svelte senior keeps in shape by dancing away all those calories. This should help in the future when she sets her sights on opening a bakery.

Customers Buzzing Over Hornets’ Bee-stro

Thursday, February 16th, 2012

The Preble High School (Green Bay, Wis.) Hornets are a force to be reckoned with on the field – and in the kitchen. The school’s culinary students whipped up yet another feast the other day in the Hornets’ Bee-stro. This one included everything from watercress salad to boeuf bourguignon to strawberry chocolate pudding. Teen chefs figure the costs, prepare and serve the food, even clean-up afterwards. About 60 diners turned up on Valentine’s Day, including the city’s mayor.
