N.Y. Teen Chefs Compete in Culinary Showdown

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2012

Finals for culinary students at East High School in Rochester, N.Y., took place recently and they weren’t on paper nor in the kitchen-classrooms. Instead, students gathered in the ballroom of the Riverside Convention Center for a head-to-head Iron Chef competition.

Food Network host Daisy Martinez lead a panel of judges who watched the teen contestants create culinary masterpieces in 60 minutes. The catch – teens cooked before a live audience and their dishes had to include root beer, kiwi, and pita chips. Oh, and the sous chefs? Teens relied on the mayor and a host of other local celebs.

Rochester Teens Sell Healthy Fare at the Fair

Thursday, August 25th, 2011

‘Tis the season for fairgrounds to be saturated with greasy, deep-fried or sugary concoctions that don’t exactly qualify as health food. Still, they tend to be the only items on the menu at many summertime fests. Some Rochester, N.Y., teens are looking to change that, hoping to show that local, fresh and healthful can be just as appetizing as all that greasy stuff. They chose the New York State Fair to prove their point.
