Parents have been hiring, cajoling, ordering or asking teens to help with the yardwork since long before the weed whacker was invented. Today, teens and their families in Portland, Ore., have a new person to turn to for help: Georgina Stiner, the local goatherd.
Leaders of eco-conscious Portland found themselves in a bind recently when the city seemed nearly overrun with invasive plants and weeds taking over large plots of land. Chemical herbicides would pollute groundwater, and some places were just plain hard to reach for public works crews. That’s when Georgina Stiner’s goats entered the picture.
