Community Service Yields Food Discount

Tuesday, September 6th, 2011

Many teens know how a food co-op works:  A bunch of folks become members of the co-op, then volunteer their labor at the store to keep food costs down for all.  The SHARE Food Program in Philadelphia works something like that, but there’s no store to be found. There are tunnel greenhouses in which food is grown year ’round and lots of volunteers to help with the process. Two hours of works nets the volunteer a deep discount on the fresh fare.
