Move from Dorm Brings Kitchen Perks

Friday, October 14th, 2011

When you live in a dorm, cooking in college can be challenging at best. But sometimes you get to move out and into an apartment, where you not only tend to get a bit more space, you also get the chance to cook whatever you want to eat every day. For Bethany Imondi, a junior at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., cooking tasty, from-scratch meals on a budget is one of her favorite pasttimes. She squeezes it in around eight hours of classes for a double major and two jobs to keep her financially afloat. Bethany chronicles her cooking on the blog Big Girls, Small Kitchen.

Tuesday, September 27th, 2011

A couple of years ago, Rhode Island teenager Cassandra Lin cooked up a plan to turn used cooking oil into fuel for the needy, then recruited her pals at school to help turn the plan into reality. Today, Cassandra’s project, TGIF, for Turning Grease Into Fuel, is cited worldwide as an example of the best that happens when teens work together for positive changes in the environment. TGIF is part of the e Westerly Innovations Network, which brings kids together in the name of community service.
